If you are sailing, windsurfing, fishing, surfing etc. in Caramoan don't forget to check the tide and wind and wave conditions
Caramoan consists of a largely undeveloped national park area covering a substantial hilly forest covered peninsula and several island groups. You can stay at Gota Beach or Hunongan cove beach resorts which are in neighbouring coves and both owned by the government. Both beaches offer beautiful views of the nearby Caramoan islands and island hopping trips by boat are offered daily. Limestone rock formations, caves and white sandy beaches distguish Caramoan from other Luzon beach destinations. Caramoan shares features such as limestone formations and small rocky hills similar to those of the Palawan islands. On the shorter island hopping trip you will get to visit Tayak beach and lake, Matukad island and Lahos island.
The longer trip takes you to Cotivas island, Manlawi beach on Lahuy island and Bagieng island. The best snorkelling can actually be found quite close to shore, opposite Hunongan cove on the reef infront of Kagbalinad island.
Caramoan being situated on the Pacific coast of the Luzon does not have a distinct dry season but is driest and best visited from February until May. October until January are the wettest months.
A holiday at the beach in Caramoan, Camarines Sur, Bicol, Luzon, Philippines is an experience you won't forget. Known for its stunning natural beauty and pristine white-sand beaches, Caramoan is an ideal destination for those who want to relax and unwind amidst breathtaking scenery. With a diverse range of activities to enjoy and accommodations to suit all budgets, a beach getaway in this tropical paradise promises to be both enjoyable and unforgettable.
Caramoan is known for its use as the filming location for the international Survivor TV series. Various TV crews from different countries visit from May to September each year to film the show.
Caramoan boasts a variety of beaches with different types of sand and terrain. Many of the beaches feature powdery white sand that's perfect for sunbathing or strolling along the shoreline. However, there are also some areas with yellow sand, coarse sand, pebbles, and rocky terrain.
For snorkeling and diving enthusiasts, the presence of rocks or a reef creates a thriving marine ecosystem that attracts colorful fish and other sea creatures. This makes Caramoan an excellent destination for exploring underwater wonders.
There are plenty of beach activities to enjoy in Caramoan. Some popular options include:
Island Hopping: With numerous islands scattered around the area, island-hopping tours are very popular in Caramoan. You'll get a chance to visit several pristine beaches and hidden coves during these tours.
Snorkeling: The crystal-clear waters around Caramoan are teeming with marine life, making it an ideal spot for snorkeling. Discover vibrant corals and swim alongside tropical fish as you explore the underwater world.
Diving: The rocky coastline provides excellent opportunities for scuba diving enthusiasts to explore diverse marine life found in this region.
Kayaking: Paddle through calm waters while enjoying the picturesque views on a kayaking adventure around the islands.
Stand-Up Paddleboarding (SUP): Get a full-body workout while enjoying the beauty of the ocean on a stand-up paddleboard.
Caramoan offers various types of accommodations to suit every budget and preference. Some recommended beach resorts and hotels include:
I recommend the local government owned Gota Village resort, which is the home for the TV crew and contestants during the filming of the Survivor series for many countries. On my last trip there in October 2023 the Swedish crew had just left days before we arrived. Gota has pretty wooden huts that look like they were imported straight from Scandinavia. To book you'll need to call them direct as they are not listed on the typical travel websites like Agoda and Booking.com.
When choosing where to stay in Caramoan, consider these areas:
Paniman Beach: This area is ideal for those who prefer a more laid-back vibe, with its quiet atmosphere and beautiful surroundings.
Gota Village: This area is perfect for those looking for easy access to various island-hopping tours, as it serves as a jump-off point for many excursions.
Caramoan Town Proper: For travelers who prefer being close to amenities like restaurants, shops, and transportation options, staying in the town proper is a good choice.
Some of the beach amenities you can expect to find in Caramoan include:
You can book the boat rentals directly from Gota resort or the resort of your choice. The prices range from PHP2,500 to PHP3,500 depending if you choose a close or far island group to visit.
