If you are sailing, windsurfing, fishing, surfing etc. in Sulfur Mines Beach don't forget to check the tide and wind and wave conditions
Taking a holiday at Sulfur Mines Beach, also known as Paliorema Beach, in Milos, Greece, is an unforgettable experience. This unique beach is located on the eastern side of the island and is famous for its abandoned sulfur mine. The combination of crystal-clear waters, striking yellow-orange rocks, and old mining facilities create a one-of-a-kind atmosphere that attracts visitors from all around the world.
Sulfur Mines Beach is not your typical sandy beach. The shoreline consists of a mix of pebbles and coarse sand with a distinctive yellow hue due to the high sulfur content in the area. The surrounding rocks and old mining structures add to its unique charm. Snorkeling and diving are particularly interesting here as the rocky seabed and underwater mine remnants attract various species of fish.
At Sulfur Mines Beach, you can enjoy a range of activities that take advantage of its unique landscape:
There are no beach resorts or hotels directly on Sulfur Mines Beach due to its remote location and abandoned infrastructure. However, there are plenty of accommodation options in nearby towns such as Pollonia or Adamas.
We recommend staying in one of these two towns when visiting Sulfur Mines Beach:
Sulfur Mines Beach is quite remote and lacks many of the amenities found at more developed beaches. There are no sunbeds or umbrellas available for rent, nor are there any beach bars or restaurants nearby. However, this also means that you'll likely have a more peaceful and uncrowded experience during your visit. Be sure to bring all necessary supplies with you such as water, snacks, sunscreen, and beach towels.
