Malta Beaches

Malta consists of three rocky islands - Gozo, Comino and Malta main island. Malta is in the south of the Mediterranean and not that far from northern africa. The islands offer a choice of rocky and sandy beaches which are most popular with tourists in June, July, August and September. August in particular is the peak month and you may find the beaches crowded at this time. For sandy beaches, swimming and sunbathing try Golden Bay and Ghajn Tuffieha. For beautiful rocky beaches and cliffs good for snorkelling, diving and enjoying the scenery try The Blue Lagoon on Comino island and Blue Hole and Azure Window on Gozo island.

Malta Climate

Malta has a typical Mediterranean climate with very long, extremely dry and sunny days in June, July, August and September. The air temperature can reach 35° and rarely falls below 20° and the sea is warm giving perfect beach weather. During these summer months air conditioning is almost essential during the day and night. Good sunny weather can continue from September into December, with the temperatures dropping slowly as winter approaches. As air temperatures drop, so does the sea temperature, by December trips to the beach will be chilly, though possible if the weather is sunny. Storms can bring rainy periods during the autumn and winter months, these periods can last for weeks. From January until March the air temperature will typically be around 15° and the sea temperature drops to 15°, so definitely not beach weather! In April and May temperatures start to rise and visiting the sights of Malta is pleasant, though the sea temperature is still too low to make beach trips fun.
